KidWatch › Channel Safety › AsapSCIENCE
Smart science content, but two of these videos are basically drug explainers that I'd want to watch with my teen first.
Best for ages 14+
AsapSCIENCE is genuinely clever and I get why kids like it. The sleep video and the chicken-or-egg one are totally fine, even fun. The smoking video is educational and actually pretty good for starting a conversation about why quitting is hard.

Here's where I pumped the brakes though: two full videos dedicated to explaining how marijuana and magic mushrooms affect your brain. They're not glorifying drug use exactly, but they're detailed, kind of fascinating in tone, and a younger kid could easily walk away thinking shrooms sound pretty amazing. The mushroom video even cites a study where people called it the most spiritual moment of their lives.
If your kid is in middle school or younger, I'd skip those two. High schoolers? Maybe watch together and talk about it. The rest of the channel seems solid for curious kids who like science.
Flagged Moments
middle segment
The video describes in detail how psilocybin causes euphoric hallucinations and altered consciousness, and quotes a study where participants called the experience the most spiritually significant moment of their lives. The tone here feels almost promotional rather than cautionary.
closing segment
A UK study is cited saying shrooms cause the least damage of any recreational drug compared to others, which could easily be taken out of context by a teenager looking for permission to experiment.
middle segment
The video explains how THC creates euphoria, magnifies thoughts, and enhances experiences. It's framed scientifically but the description of the high is pretty vivid and could read as appealing to a curious kid.
opening segment
Marijuana is introduced as the most commonly used illicit drug in North America with no strong framing around risks before diving into the mechanics of the high.
early segment
The video opens by noting 1.3 billion people actively smoke and describes nicotine withdrawal symptoms in detail including anxiety, depression, and cravings. Fine for older kids but a bit heavy for younger ones.
opening segment
The host mentions caffeine and nicotine together as substances to avoid before sleep. Nicotine is mentioned casually alongside coffee which is a very minor concern but worth noting for younger viewers.
What Parents Should Know
Watch the marijuana and mushroom videos yourself before your kid does, because they explain drug effects in ways that are interesting enough to spark curiosity rather than just concern.
Use the smoking video as a conversation starter with older kids since it actually does a good job showing how hard quitting is and what the body goes through.
Feel comfortable letting younger kids watch the sleep and chicken-or-egg videos on their own, those are genuinely fun and age-appropriate.
If your teenager has already seen the shrooms video, ask them what they took away from it since the study about spiritual experiences tends to stick in their heads more than the paranoia statistic.
Keep in mind the channel is aimed at curious older teens and adults, so set expectations before handing it over to a 10-year-old who's just looking for fun science.
